Surgeons in northern Nigeria face immense surgical challenges, coupled with insecurity and extreme poverty among their patients. In 2016 Dr. Shaye met Dr. Taiwo, a maxillofacial surgeon in Sokoto, Nigeria. Their long conversations and friendship led them to believe they were “Kindred Spirits”, and they  maintained a close connection on improving surgery  for those in greatest need. In Nigeria’s most northwestern state of Sokoto, Dr Abdurrazaq Taiwo (a Maxillofacial Surgeon) and Dr. Jacob Legbo (a Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon) serve patients at Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital.
